Published on November 02, 2016
Mayor Janice S. Mironov, joined by Council Members Denise Daniels and John Zoller and company executives Chief Executive Officer Chad Gassert and President/Founder Muthusamy Shanmugam, announced that Novitium Pharmaceuticals has relocated to East Windsor Township from a small facility employing 20 people in South Plainfield, NJ, to a 45,000 square foot facility at 70 Lake Drive, just off New Jersey East Windsor Interchange 8. The company now employs 46 workers with plans to grow to 100 workers in 2017 and to add another 100 workers in 2018. Novitium Pharmaceuticals, a new start-up pharma company by longtime industry professionals, specializes in developing and manufacturing generic forms of drugs in dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, oral/topical liquids and creams. In addition to developing and manufacturing generic drugs, Novitium will also market directly to major retailers such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.
Mayor Mironov stated, “Novitium Pharmaceuticals’ decision to relocate and expand their company in East Windsor represents the attraction to East Windsor of yet another high-tech, high growth-potential company to our Einstein’s Alley corridor. East Windsor Township offers to pharmaceutical and technology companies a great value, a superior strategic location between New York and Philadelphia and just off New Jersey East Windsor Interchange 8, a highly educated central New Jersey workforce with proximity to many universities and colleges, and a business friendly municipal government environment.
Mayor Mironov noted, “Novitium Pharmaceuticals adds to the many pharmaceutical related firms which have chosen to locate in East Windsor, including Aurobindo, Hovione, Fordoz Pharma, Elementis, CoreTech Solutions, Aprecia, Aurex Laboratories, Sabinsa, and Windsor Labs. These pharmaceutical firms developing in East Windsor are a clear signal that the Township has fast become a pharmaceutical industry hub which continues to attract more high tech research and development talent, investment, and jobs.”
Extensive renovations are underway and planned for the existing 45,000 square foot building, consisting of a fit-out of 2,000 square feet for additional office and lab space, followed by a fit-out of about 35,000 square feet of space, currently configured as a warehouse, for the manufacture and packaging of pharmaceuticals.
Novitium Pharmaceuticals Chief Executive Officer Chad Gassert stated, "We are very excited to grow our newly established company in the Township of East Windsor. Strategically located within the breadbasket of the pharmaceutical industry, East Windsor offers access to a highly talented workforce within a business friendly and collaborative environment."
Novitium Pharmaceuticals was founded by Company President Muthusamy “Samy” Shanmugam, a pharmaceutical scientist with a master’s degree in pharmacy and a registered pharmacist in the State of New York with 21 years of experience in the industry, working with companies such as Ivax, Kali Labs, and Novel Labs. Mr. Shanmugam has developed and commercialized in excess of 100 specialty dosage forms and Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA) in the U.S. market.
