East Windsor Township Awarded NJ Department of Transportation $490,932 Grant for Abbington Drive, Lake Drive and Portion of Milford Road

Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township has been awarded a $490,932 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation Fiscal Year 2025 Municipal Aid Program, for improvements to Abbington Drive, Lake Drive and a portion of Milford Road.

The $490,932 State grant includes the milling and resurfacing of the entire lengths of both Abbington Drive and Lake Drive and the end portion of Milford Road, as well as other associated improvements to concrete curbing and aprons, handicap ramps, and drainage.  These roads are major connector roadways in the Township used extensively by residents and businesses connecting Route 33 and other important local connector roadways and public facilities and schools.

The Township will proceed with the New Jersey Department of Transportation mandated engineering work.  The project schedule will be determined upon engineering completion and NJDOT approval and in coordination with other municipal projects, likely in the upcoming spring or summer 2025.

Mayor Mironov stated, “We are very appreciative to receive this State grant funding to support our efforts to improve important roadways in East Windsor.  These road sections are in an extremely deteriorated condition and are very much in need of repairs and improvements.  These State grant funds are an important resource in our efforts to undertake needed local roadway improvements in East Windsor, for which the Township would otherwise have to devote local tax dollars to perform these roadway improvements.”

East Windsor has successfully applied for and received other recent NJDOT grants to support roadway improvements. In 2023 and 2024, the Township received two grants totaling $1,425,781 for Dutch Neck Road, between the West Windsor border and Hickory Corner Road, and Dorchester Drive, from Dutch Neck Road south to the end. Final engineering has been submitted for NJDOT approval to enable bidding and roadway work in 2025. In 2023, East Windsor received grants totaling $833,860 for Beechcroft Drive, Hemlock Court, Brooklawn Drive, Ivy Lane East, Glenwood Circle, and Meadowbrook Drive, and a $950,000 grant for Greenbrook Drive, Oakridge Road, Hope Valley Drive, Marilyn Drive, and Meadowview Drive. Both projects recently have been completed.

Other recent NJDOT grants for completed roadway improvement projects include: a $600,000 grant in 2021 for Hawthorne Lane, Brooklawn Drive, Holly Drive, and Iris Drive; a $530,000 grant in 2020 for Oakbranch Road, Pineybranch Drive, Pinehurst Drive, and Warren Drive; and a $600,361 grant in 2019 for Exeter Road, Exeter Court, Cornwall Drive, Surrey Lane, Berkshire Drive, Standford Court, and Drew Lane.
