Shiseido America Undertakes Further Expansion in East Windsor Township
Published on September 11, 2015
Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members joined Shiseido America Plant Manager Ladislav Hanzes and company executives for a groundbreaking ceremony for the newest expansion by Shiseido America, Inc. (SAI) of their current East Windsor facility, located on 43.9 acres on Princeton Hightstown Road.
The company has begun construction to expand to 310,580 square feet by adding approximately 45,000 square feet, primarily for research and development as well as for office use, with some accessory areas. The project includes an interior addition of a 30,000 square foot mezzanine for office use, and conversion of some warehouse space to manufacturing space use. Shiseido America, Inc. also owns an additional 40 acres adjacent to this site for future potential growth.
The expansion is to accommodate company growth and also incorporates relocation of the Monroe Township Shiseido entity, Davlyn Industries, operations and employees to the East Windsor facility. The project will expand production capacity and also will enhance the R&D capabilities at the East Windsor site.
Mayor Mironov stated, “This expansion marks another significant investment by one of East Windsor’s major corporations, bringing new tax dollars, ensuring existing jobs and adding significant numbers of new jobs to our community. We are excited that Shiseido, one of our preeminent companies and community-minded corporate neighbors, continues on such a positive growth pathway here in East Windsor.”
Mayor Mironov continued, “East Windsor is pleased to continue the beneficial partnership we have enjoyed with the global cosmetics giant Shiseido, which represents a great example in terms of a business model, a community model and an environmental leader, and that’s really an unbeatable combination.” She noted that in 2010 Shiseido received a New Jersey Environmental Excellence Award for reducing electricity use by 75% percent by installing a rooftop solar array, a modest sized ground-based array, and various energy-saving initiatives.
Shiseido America, Inc. Plant Manager Ladislav Hanzes stated, “ we are excited to have an opportunity to improve our operations during the consolidation of the Davlyn Industries Inc. site to our SAI East Windsor location. We will have stronger, more flexible operations and we look forward to continued partnership with our East Windsor community. Shiseido is committed to building a best in class manufacturing operation in the Americas region, to contribute economically, as well as being a socially and environmentally conscious member of the East Windsor community. “
Mayor Mironov added, “Shiseido, a well-regarded global corporation, represents for East Windsor another high-tech, high growth-potential company within our Einstein’s Alley corridor.”
In 2013, Shiseido completed another expansion at the East Windsor facility, adding 54,580 square feet to their warehouse facility, allowing the company to handle a gradual shift of distribution from their Oakland, NJ facility to East Windsor. Those 2013 warehouse and manufacturing additions increased space for the handling of the Company’s innovative cosmetics brands, including Shiseido, NARS and Bare Escentuals, and increased distribution capabilities on site to more efficiently handle the export of products manufactured at the East Windsor facility to Europe and Asia. That additional space also allowed the facility to move their loading docks inside to accommodate an efficient floor loading system.
Shiseido America, Inc., a subsidiary of the Japanese-based corporation Shiseido Company LTD, established its operations in East Windsor in 1998. Shiseido Company LTD, now the third largest cosmetics company in the world, develops upscale cosmetics, sun care products, fragrances and professional salon hair care products. The East Windsor location will be Shiseido’s major production site for the NARS, Bare Escentuals, and Shiseido brands in the North American region.”
