East Windsor Township Mayor Janice Mironov Recognizes Women’s History Month

Mayor Janice S. Mironov, joined by New Jersey State Senator Linda R. Greenstein, Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami-Covello and Mercer County Surrogate Diane Gerofsky, issued a Proclamation recognizing Women’s History Month in March.

Mayor Mironov noted ”the importance of recognizing and applauding the distinguished and valuable contributions made by women today and throughout our history.” She spoke about the contributions of Senator Greenstein, County Clerk Sollami-Covello and Surrogate Gerofsky “as public officials who have themselves been great examples and models of women who have helped made a difference and lead the way for other women who are interested in public service.”

Senator Greenstein commended East Windsor was one of the only towns in Mercer County recognizing Women’s History Month, and noted how “women have made tremendous strides…the minute they were given the opportunity, they have blossomed. Today is the day to celebrate all the great things women have done.”

The Mayoral Proclamation issued by Mayor Mironov states, “the contributions made by women to our civic, political and cultural life throughout the history of the United States, the State of New Jersey and the Township of East Windsor are noteworthy and have benefited all of us. Women have made important changes in areas including social reform, women’s equality, health care reform, education reform, archaeology and anthropology, business and politics.”

Women’s History Month had its origins in 1980 as a national celebration when President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the week of March 8, 1980 “Women’s History Week.” By 1987, “Women’s History Week” had become “Women’s History Month,” highlighting women’s history as an essential and indispensable heritage that is crucial to understanding the true history of our country and the need for full equality under the law for all.
