East Windsor Township Acquires New Open Space Property on Airport Road
Published on December 19, 2014
Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township has formally closed, acquiring a new open space property on Airport Road. The 24.14 acre property, zoned residential and included in the Township approved Open Space and Recreation Plan, is wooded with significant wetland areas, and adjacent to the Windsor Cove subdivision and another 7.55 acre Township open space property located on Airport Road.
Mayor Mironov stated, “Preserving this property as open space will directly enhance the attractiveness of our community and the living environment for our residents in that part of East Windsor. This acquisition is another positive step in further expanding open space and a continuation of a major Township goal to preserve farmland and open space for the benefit of current and future residents of our community.”
Mayor Mironov continued, “The Township has preserved over 2,700 acres, constituting almost 30 percent of the Township, permanently preserved as open space and farmland. With these most recent grants, the total amount of Green Acres funds approved to date through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for the Township and East Windsor Green Space is over $6.4 million, along with approximately $3 million in Mercer County open space grants and over $2 million in developer donations.”
The $200,000 purchase price was underwritten by a $72,000 State Green Acres grant, a $72,000 Mercer County Open Space grant and $56,000 of developer contributions to the East Windsor Open Space Fund. No local property taxpayer monies were used in the open space acquisition.
