East Windsor Township Celebrates 100th Birthday of Longtime Resident and past Council Member Sylvia Weiss

Mayor Janice S. Mironov presented longtime East Windsor resident and former Council Member Sylvia Weiss with a Proclamation in celebration of her 100th birthday, at a recent family celebration. Sylvia Weiss reaches 100 years on October 27.

Mayor Mironov’s Proclamation stated, “We continue to honor and applaud Sylvia Weiss as a very special and beloved member of our Township, acknowledging her many involvements and contributions to her family and those within our community. The entire East Windsor community extends our warmest regards and enthusiastic birthday wishes to Sylvia Weiss on her 100th birthday.”

Mayor Mironov noted, “Sylvia Weiss' entire life has been marked by a strong sense of community spirit and volunteerism and she is a shining example of how we all can make a difference in our community. In addition to serving as a Council Member in the late 1970’s, Sylvia was a past Chairperson of the Township Commission on Aging and a recognized pioneer of the East Windsor Senior Citizen Program. Sylvia was honored for her community spirit and dedication especially to the area seniors, by the naming after her by the Mayor and Council of the annually awarded "Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer".

Sylvia Weiss moved to East Windsor Township over 45 years ago, where she has been an active community member, participating in a broad range of other volunteer activities, including the PTA, League of Women Voters, Hadassah, and Better Beginnings. Sylvia was for many years a columnist for the Windsor-Hights Herald and still writes poetry, which is included in publications of Meadow Lakes, where she currently resides.

Born Sylvia Dichner in New York City on October 27, 1914, Sylvia Weiss moved with her family and was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She married Isadore Weiss (since deceased) on her 21st birthday, October 27, 1935, and together they raised four children, Mona Beth Gottesman, Miriam Zwerin, Deborah Meixler and Marc Weiss, and was further blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
