East Windsor Celebrates Opening of New Disbrow Hill Playing Fields with Inaugural Soccer Game

Mayor Janice S. Mironov, joined by East Windsor Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) Executive Director John Funda and East Windsor P.A.L. Board President Tim Byrne and Board Members, celebrated the opening of the new East Windsor Township Disbrow Hill Playing Fields with an inaugural soccer game between 11 year old teams East Windsor P.A.L. Lightning andEast Windsor P.A.L. Rockets.

Mayor Mironov stated, "This grant-funded project was undertaken by East Windsor Township to accommodate a growing need for more playing fields especially to support our local organized youth sports programs. Expanding recreational facilities and amenities in our community is an important goal for our administration. We are excited to open these new playing fields to the community and look forward to their use by our great local sports organizations, for hosting many sporting events and for active use by hundreds and hundreds of children in the years to come." Mayor Mironov noted, "We are grateful to Mercer County for their substantial funding resources provided through 'Mercer at Play' and for assisting East Windsor in making this investment in our community’s parks and recreation."

This new project includes two softball fields and two multi-purpose soccer/lacrosse playing fields, a new parking lot, as well as a basin for drainage, and an irrigation system which will greatly assist in managing field conditions year round.

Mayor Mironov added, "The new park facilities are centered on about 20 acres of a 59 acre Township Green Acres open space acquisition, bordered by multiple other open space properties, and over the past year have become home to the new Disbrow Hill Trail and Township Community Garden. The new grant-funded Pathway is eight feet wide and provides over one mile of bicycle path, looping around the playing fields and connecting to the Etra Lake Pathway. This new recreation site also includes the recently launched Community Garden, opened in late April as part of the Township ongoing sustainability program and provides residents with the opportunity to rent a plot of land to plant their own fruits and vegetables. Together, the new Disbrow Hill Park and the popular Etra Lake Park, just across the street on Disbrow Hill Road, represent a terrific community focal point for both active and passive recreation for residents of all ages and interests."

Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members obtained $1.2 million in County and State grants to pay for the project, including funding from the County-sponsored 'Mercer at Play' grant program established to provide municipalities with funding for construction or rehabilitation of active recreation facilities.
