East Windsor Presents 2014 "Louis Bay 2nd Future Muncipal Leaders $1,000 Scholarship" to East Windsor Regional School District Hightstown High School Junior Sohum Shah

Mayor Janice S. Mironov presented to East Windsor Regional School District Hightstown High School Junior SOHUM SHAH, one of three statewide winners, the 2014 “Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders $1,000 Scholarship” award at a recent Council Meeting. The New Jersey League of Municipalities statewide scholarship competition centers on the theme "What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best" and seeks to advance the virtues of elected and volunteer members of the community, while raising awareness of municipal government in general. An East Windsor Township resident since 2003 and local high school junior, Sohum Shah is active in school and community activities and serves as a Student Representative on the Township Health Advisory Board.

Mayor Mironov stated, “The League-sponsored Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition provides a unique opportunity for area high school students to demonstrate an interest in their local elected officials and municipal operations. We are very proud of Sohum for his outstanding efforts in achieving this statewide recognition, and his thoughtful observations about our local government.” Mayor Mironov added, “Sohum Shah is a bright young man who understands the value and importance of being involved in his community and I am certain that this $1,000 scholarship will assist him in achieving his educational goals.”

In his winning essay Sohum Shah writes, “I have been able to flourish as a student, youth, and citizen through the opportunities offered by the East Windsor Municipal Government. I vividly remember receiving a certificate and prize in second grade for the annual recycling poster contest our mayor, Janice Mironov, holds for elementary school students. It was from that moment that I realized the importance of a resilient and efficient municipal government -- a council of people that can lead our town to success by extending its community outreach and connecting with the future of the township.” Sohum Shah further wrote, “Mayor Mironov and her fellow council members are running East Windsor at the highest degree. . . . they have done what every ideal municipality should do – bond the community together. Their numerous plans have led to a close-nit town where anyone, from a second grader to a senior citizen, can have a say in how they want their town to function.”

The New Jersey State League of Municipalities, by way of its municipalities, promotes this opportunity for three high school juniors or seniors throughout New Jersey to be awarded the $1,000 scholarship through the Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition.
