Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township has been awarded two grants totaling $801,000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation Fiscal Year 2018 Municipal Aid Program, $410,000 for improvements to Old Cranbury Road including portions of Rocky Brook Road and Holland Lane, and $391,000 for Oak Creek Road including portions of Heathwood Drive.

The $410,000 grant for Old Cranbury Road includes the milling and resurfacing of Old Cranbury Road between Route 130 and the Cranbury Township border at the Millstone River bridge, Holland Lane, and Rocky Brook Road between Old Cranbury Road and Oak Branch Road, as well as other associated improvements to concrete curbing and aprons, handicap ramps, and drainage.  Old Cranbury Road is a major roadway between East Windsor and Cranbury Township which provides access to Route 130, and local residential areas as Cranbury Manor, and recreational and commercial Veterans Park facilities.

The $391,000 grant for Oak Creek Road includes the milling and resurfacing of Oak Creek Road between Heathwood Drive and Windsor Center Drive and Heathwood Drive between Oak Creek Road and Dutch Neck Road, as well as other associated improvements to concrete curbing and aprons, handicap ramps and drainage.  This portion of Oak Creek Road is a major connector roadway, providing access to Windsor Center, the Melvin H. Kreps Middle School and multiple residential developments off of Dutch Neck Road.  Heathwood Drive is a residential street that intersects Oak Creek Road and Dutch Neck Road.  Oak Creek Road is a heavily traveled significant roadway in the Township which serves as a major local connector.

The Township will proceed with the New Jersey Department of Transportation mandated engineering work, and the project schedule will be determined upon engineering completion and NJDOT approval, and in coordination with other municipal projects.

Mayor Mironov stated, “we are appreciative to receive this increased significant grant funding to support our efforts to improve important roadways in East Windsor.  These grant funds will allow the Township to perform roadway improvements to these major and frequently used municipal roadways, which have deteriorated and are very much in need of repairs and improvements.”

Mayor Mironov added, “these State grant funds are an important resource in our efforts to undertake needed local roadway improvements in East Windsor, for which the Township would otherwise have to devote local tax dollars to perform these roadway improvements.”

In previous years, East Windsor obtained a $335,000 grant in 2017 for Brooktree and Wiltshire Roadways, $260,000 in 2016 for Probasco Road, $300,000 in 2015 for improvements to Dorchester Drive from Dutch Neck Road to the West Windsor border, and $250,000 in 2014 for Hickory Corner Road from Dorchester Road to Dutch Neck Road.
