East Windsor Township Completes Grant-Funded Disbrow Hill Trail
Published on September 30, 2013
Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that the Township has completed and opened the newly constructed grant-funded "Disbrow Hill Trail."
The new trail, which is about eight feet wide, provides over one mile of bicycle path, looping around the new Disbrow Hill Road playing fields and providing access to an adjacent 121 acre Township open space property to the south. Additionally, the Disbrow Hill Trail links some of the Township’s most popular recreational facilities, connecting to the existing Etra Lake Pathway, which runs from Etra Lake Park (across the roadway) to Lake Drive in Twin Rivers, as well as the existing 1.75 mile Etra Lake Park perimeter walking path, which is equipped with exercise stations.
Mayor Mironov stated, "The new one mile plus Disbrow Hill Trail, funded by state grants, is another great addition to the Township’s pathway network." Mayor Mironov continued, "The Township is committed to enhancing and encouraging safe and fun pedestrian and bicycle access throughout our community. The system promotes health and wellness and provides useful linkages for our residents."
Funding for the pathway project was provided by a $100,000 New Jersey Department of Transportation grant and a $24,500 Recreational Trails program grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection/Federal Highway Administration.
The Township has been successful in obtaining state and federal grants to construct other major pathway projects in the last few years including the recently completed "Turnpike Park" Trail, the Etra Lake Pathway linking Twin Rivers and Etra Lake Park, the Bear Brook Pathway in the Hickory Corner area of the Township, the Woods Road Community Park Pathway and the Rocky Brook Pathway connecting One Mile Road to Route 130.
