Mayor Janice S. Mironov joined Shiseido Executives Kiyoshi Ishimoto, Shiseido Company Japan Corporate Officer and Head of Global Supply Chain; Edward Houlihan, Shiseido America President and Chief Operating Officer, Yoshikuni Fukuchi, Shiseido America Senior Vice President of Technical and Quality Assurance, along with Council Members Hector Duke, Perry Shapiro, Peter Yeager and John Zoller to cut the ribbon for the company’s 72,988 square foot two-phase expansion of the existing 211,000 square foot facility on Princeton-Hightstown Road. The Japanese-based global cosmetics and skin care company, which has about 150 full time employees and up to an additional 150 temporary employees, will add ten full time employees with the expansion. Phase I includes a 54,580 square foot office addition to the existing warehouse building, while Phase II includes an 18,408 square foot addition behind the existing office building, plus additional parking and an expanded loading area.
The expansion increases space for the handling of the company’s successful brands, including Shiseido, NARS and Bare Escentuals, and increases distribution capabilities on site to more efficiently handle the export of products manufactured at the East Windsor facility to Europe and Asia. The additional space also will allow the facility to move their loading docks inside to accommodate an efficient floor loading system.
Mayor Mironov stated, “Today is an exciting step for Shiseido’s operations and continued growth and for East Windsor. Shiseido has been a great model in terms of a business model, a community model and an environmental leader, and that’s really an unbeatable combination. This expansion will generate additional tax dollars, ensure the existing jobs as well as grow some jobs for the area and allow us to continue the productive partnership that we have enjoyed with Shiseido.” Mayor Mironov added, “With a long company history of promoting and protecting our green environment, the corporate leadership and staff of Shiseido America has set an admirable model for businesses in our community and around the world.”
Shiseido America President and Chief Operating Officer Edward Houlihan stated, “Shiseido is proud to have worked closely with Mayor Mironov and the Township for over a decade and is very appreciative of the partnership we have established with East Windsor’s local officials. We are hopeful that we will continue to deepen our productive relationship with the community and continue to expand our presence and business activities in East Windsor for years to come.” Mr. Houlihan added, “East Windsor’s strategic location also provides easy access to major piers, airports and highways, enabling our company to efficiently distribute products domestically and internationally.”
Shiseido America, a subsidiary of the Japanese-based corporation Shiseido Company LTD, established its operations in East Windsor in 1998 and serves as a manufacturing center for the company. In 2010, Shiseido in East Windsor received a New Jersey Environmental Excellence Award for reducing reliance on traditional sources of electricity by 80 percent through the installation of a roof-top solar array, a modest sized ground-based array, and various energy-saving initiatives. Shiseido Company LTD, the fourth largest cosmetics company in the world, develops upscale cosmetics, personal care items, toiletries, sun care products, fragrances, professional salon hair care products, pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.
