East Windsor Township Holds Recycling Day at Home Depot on Saturday, April 20

Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that the Mayor and Council, in partnership with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee, will hold a Recycling Day on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Home Depot of East Windsor (739 Route 33 West). Home Depot will host the East Windsor Township Recycling Day event at its Township business site, at which Home Depot also will have a table providing information about green products for the home such as energy efficient light bulbs, backyard composters and green cleaning products.

Mayor Mironov stated, “This event represents a valuable partnership between local government and local business to focus on and provide services to help ‘green’ our community. We are committed to recycling in East Windsor Township and reducing the townships solid waste costs, while helping to preserve a greener environment.” Mayor Mironov continued, “This is an environmentally positive and convenient opportunity for residents to dispose of unneeded items at no cost, to help support worthwhile area groups and efforts, while helping the Township reduce landfill costs and preserve the environment.”

Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents to dispose of unwanted and unneeded documents. There is a limit of ten boxes per household, and the service is limited to East Windsor residents. No commercial entities are permitted. Mayor Mironov stated, “This is a great opportunity for Township residents to dispose of old or confidential documents in a secure manner. Document shredding provides a non-recoverable tool for providing confidentiality and protecting against identify theft.”

At East Windsor Recycling Day, the Township will accept any used electronics, appliances, televisions, and computer equipment for disposal in a “green” manner. Residents can drop-off any desktop or laptop computers, monitors, printers, scanners, hard drives (external or internal), keyboards, mice, speakers, cords and cables, ink and toner cartridges, and software. Individuals are responsible for removing data from hard drives and other storage media before donating them.

Residents can also drop off and dispose of cell phones and toner cartridges, as well as fluorescent bulbs. The East Windsor Lions Club will be on-site collecting used eye glasses, which are cleaned and distributed for use to those in need.

The Rescue Mission of Trenton will have trucks on-site to collect used furniture, clothing, blankets and working appliances and household electronics. Charitable donation receipts will be provided.

The Clean Communities Committee will be distributing recycling information on additional tools and ways to recycle and on composting. For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 215.
