Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township was awarded a $200,000 Small Cities Community Development Block Grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. The purpose of the grant is to enable East Windsor Township to undertake a Township-wide housing rehabilitation program to assist at least twelve East Windsor homeowners with making important needed home repairs. The $200,000 grant is matched by 20% or $40,000 by developer contributions in the Township Housing Trust Fund.

The East Windsor rehabilitation program provides up to approximately $15,000 in funding for eligible Township homeowners. Homeowners who qualify within the program’s income criteria and guidelines are eligible to receive funds to repair or replace major systems or safety violations including heating and electrical systems, plumbing system components, weatherization such as windows, insulation, roofs and foundations. Funds are provided as a no interest deferred loan, with no monthly payments and no accrued interest. The amount is repayable upon the sale of the home.

Mayor Mironov stated, “This $200,000 grant will enable the Township to assist Township homeowners, including senior citizens who otherwise could not afford it, to repair substandard systems and fix conditions in disrepair such as windows, roofs and toilets. The housing rehabilitation program at the same time services a worthwhile community interest of helping maintain our Township housing stock.” Mayor Mironov added, “We are appreciative to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for supporting this community program, and I encourage eligible homeowners to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to make needed home repairs.”
