East Windsor Township Recognizes Volunteer Firefighters of the Year during Fire Prevention Week

East Windsor Township Mayor Janice Mironov proclaimed Fire Prevention Week and recognized Volunteer Firefighters of the Year, James J. McCann of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, and Eric Coran of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2. Mayor Mironov presented Proclamations to Firefighters of the Year McCann and Coran, “expressing deep appreciation for their special and invaluable contributions and extraordinary dedication.” She noted that “volunteer firefighters Jim McCann and Eric Coran are outstanding models, who have devoted countless hours to public service, earning them much respect from Fire Company members and the entire East Windsor community."

James J. McCann, who joined East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 in 1997, has served as Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Engineer, and Company Trustee for the past 14 years. He is active on several county and state-wide agencies, including the Mercer County Active Chiefs, the Tri-County Suburban Chiefs, and the International Chiefs organization. McCann is also the Director of the Mercer County Fire Academy, where he works directly with Mercer County Community College in organizing the curriculum for firefighters in the surrounding area.

Eric Coran, who has served as Deputy Chief since 2007, joined East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 in 1996. He previously held the positions of Secretary, Engineer, and multiple terms as Lieutenant and President. Coran has responded to over 2,400 fire calls, and attended 253 community events and fire prevention activities. He also has attended over 400 training drills and has an active leadership role in firefighter training and company communications.
