East Windsor Township Holds Recycling Day at the Home Depot on Saturday, October 6

East Windsor Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that the Mayor and Council, in partnership with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee, will hold a Recycling Day on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Home Depot of East Windsor, 739 Route 33 West.

\Mayor Mironov underscored the change in location, noting that, “This is the first year East Windsor is basing Recycling Day at the East Windsor Home Depot, which is intended to build on the success of previous Township Recycling Day events by providing residents the opportunity to, not only dispose of items in a ‘green’ manner, but also purchase ‘green’ items for their home.” The Home Depot is providing use of its business site and staff to assist with this event, as well as hosting a table where they will be providing information about and selling green products for the home such as energy efficient light bulbs, backyard composters and green cleaning products. Mayor Mironov stated, “This year’s event represents a unique partnership between local government and local business to focus on and provide services to help green our community.”

Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents to dispose of unwanted and unneeded documents. There is a limit of ten boxes per household, and the service is limited to East Windsor residents. No commercial entities are permitted. Mayor Mironov stated, “This is a great opportunity for Township residents to dispose of old or confidential documents in a secure manner. Document shredding provides a non-recoverable tool for providing confidentiality and protecting against identify theft.”

At East Windsor Recycling Day, the Township will accept used electronics, as well as computers and computer equipment for disposal in a “green” manner. Residents can drop-off any desktop or laptop computers, monitors, printers, scanners, hard drives (external or internal), keyboards, mice, speakers, cords and cables, ink and toner cartridges, and software. Individuals are responsible for removing data from hard drives and other storage media before donating them. Residents who are unable to attend the Recycling Day can drop off computer equipment Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding holidays, at the Township public works facility located at the corner of Ward Street and Etra Road.

Residents also will be able to drop off and dispose of cell phones and toner cartridges, as well as fluorescent bulbs. The East Windsor Lions Club will be on-site collecting used eye glasses, which are cleaned and distributed for use to those in need.

The Rescue Mission of Trenton will have trucks on-site to collect used furniture, clothing, blankets and working appliances and household electronics. All donated items are to be in usable condition and clothing should be brought in plastic bags. Charitable donation receipts will be provided.
