East Windsor Township Announces Clothing Donation Drive in Partnership with Rescue Mission of Trenton

East Windsor Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township is launching a clothing donation drive in partnership with and for the benefit of Rescue Mission of Trenton. Clothing donation bins have been placed by the Township in three convenient locations, specifically, the Township Public Works facility at 309 Ward Street, the East Windsor Senior Center at 40 Lanning Boulevard, and the East Windsor Fire Company No. 2/Rescue Squad No. 2 at 69 Twin Rivers Drive. The Public Works location is open Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3 pm. Items which can be dropped off include pants, shirts, jackets, sweaters, shoes, belts, hats, scarves, neck ties, hand bags, wallets, brief cases, backpacks, sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels in usable condition. Residents are asked to drop off items in plastic bags. All clothing donations go directly to the Rescue Mission either to be sold in the Mission Store or given away to needy members of the community.

Mayor Mironov stated, “East Windsor is excited to partner with the Rescue Mission in coordinating a local clothing donation drive, which provides an excellent opportunity for residents to have a very positive and direct impact on the welfare of many people throughout East Windsor and Mercer County. I encourage residents to participate in this meaningful program by dropping off items in the donation bins conveniently located around the Township.” Mayor Mironov continued, “This worthwhile program also presents another vehicle for residents to recycle and reuse unneeded items, also resulting in a ‘green’ financial benefit by increasing East Windsor’s recycling quantities and recycling tonnage grant awards.”

The Rescue Mission worked closely with East Windsor Township Administration to place these boxes, illustrating the Township’s commitment to helping those in need in the region. “I salute Mayor Mironov’s forward thinking in recognizing the importance of community-wide involvement in recycling, especially as through community members donations of clothing they are directly assisting the economically needy right here in Mercer County,” stated Mary Gay Abbott-Young, CEO, Rescue Mission of Trenton. Upon meeting with Mayor Mironov on July 30th at the Senior Center collection box at 40 Lanning Boulevard, Rescue Mission CEO Mary Gay Abbott-Young stated, “It is particularly fitting that this collection box is located at the East Windsor Senior Center, a space which itself is a testament to the Mayor’s commitment to socially conscious community building.”

The Rescue Mission of Trenton is a Mercer County based nonprofit agency, whose motto is “Working Together to Rebuild Lives,” which serves individuals in need of shelter, food, clothing, and other counseling and support services. The agency services include: “TEACH,” an education and job readiness program; “Vince’s Place,” a State of New Jersey licensed program which provides residential addiction treatment; “Robinson Place,” a State of New Jersey licensed program which provides permanent supportive housing for single men who receive supportive services to assist them in maintaining independent living, and an Outpatient Clinic, a State of New Jersey licensed program providing substance abuse treatment.
