East Windsor Township Completes New Disbrow Hill Trail

Mayor Janice Mironov announced that the Township has completed and opened the newly constructed grant-funded “Disbrow Hill Trail”.

Phase I of the new recreational trail, which is approximately one-quarter mile in length and approximately eight feet wide, is intended to loop around the new Disbrow Hill playing fields, and eventually connect to a 121 acre Township-owned open space parcel along the southern border. The new Trail is constructed on a 57 acre open space property of which about 20 acres is being developed with State/County grant funds with four multi-purpose playing fields for softball and soccer/lacrosse. The new Disbrow Hill Trail is linked with a new crosswalk to two existing pathways in Etra Lake Park, a 4,770 foot pathway to Lake Drive in Twin Rivers and a 2 mile walking path, with exercise stations, around the perimeter of Etra Lake Park.

Mayor Mironov stated, “We are excited that the new approximately one mile wonderfully scenic trail will expand our pathway network, by complementing and connecting to the recently constructed Etra Lake Park Pathway.” Mayor Mironov continued, “the Township is committed to enhancing and encouraging safe and fun pedestrian and bicycle access throughout our community. This project promotes recreational opportunities and provides a useful linkage for our residents.”

A $24,500 grant was obtained by Mayor Mironov and Members of Council through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Recreational Trails Program, to purchase the trail surface material, signage, benches and construction of a crosswalk on Disbrow Hill Road to connect to the Etra Lake Park pathways.

The Township has been successful in obtaining State and Federal grants to construct other major pathway projects in the last few years including the recently completed “Turnpike Park” Trail, the Etra Lake Pathway linking Twin Rivers and Etra Lake Park, the Bear Brook Pathway in the Hickory Corner area of the Township, the Woods Road Community Park Pathway and the Rocky Brook Pathway connecting One Mile Road to Route 130.
