East Windsor Township Announces New "Green" Electronics Recycling Program

Mayor Janice Mironov announced that, effective May 1, a new recycling initiative is being launched in East Windsor Township to help residents dispose of electronic waste. East Windsor Township will begin accepting most all electronic waste from all Township residents at the Township Public Works facility (located on Ward Street at the corner of Etra Road), which is open 7 A.M. to 3 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Electronic waste includes televisions, computers, computer monitors, computer related equipment, radios, stereos, all size appliances (e.g. microwaves, toasters, air conditioners, refrigerators), DVDs, VCRs, electronic games, copiers, fax machines, tape recorders, answering machines, ballasts and most other electronic items. Almost anything with a plug or battery will be accepted. Currently, the Township only accepts televisions and computer equipment.

Mayor Janice Mironov noted, “The new municipal electronics waste recycling initiative will actually generate revenue by recycling the electronics waste, while also reducing the costs of these items by removing them from the regular solid waste collection stream. The Township will receive more recycling credits from the State for additional recycled materials, which translates into an increased annual Recycling Tonnage Grant awarded by the State. Furthermore, removing these items, many of which are also bulky and heavy, from the waste stream reduces costly tipping disposal fees and Township personnel costs.”

Mayor Mironov continued, “This new recycling initiative also will provide a local convenience for Township residents who previously had to transport electronics to Trenton during a specific event if they wished to recycle them.”
Electronics disposal will be available for residents of East Windsor Township only. All residents may drop off electronics regardless of where they live, including those residing in the private communities. The “white goods” collection of large appliances for residents of the Garbage District will remain on the third Wednesday of every month.

Mayor Mironov stated, “The new Township recycling initiative is a win for everyone. Residents are able to recycle electronics easier and more conveniently, while the Township generates revenue and reduces trash disposal costs. All residents are urged to take advantage of this free service.” For questions about electronics recycling, call Township Public Works at 609-443-4000, ext. 215.
