East Windsor Township Mayor Janice Mironov Recognizes Red Cross Month

Mayor Janice S. Mironov, joined by New Jersey Crossroads Chapter of the American Red Cross Executive Director Christy Hodde, issued a Proclamation recognizing American Red Cross Month in March.

Mayor Mironov called on all citizens to support the organization and to participate as a volunteer, stating, “I know there are many volunteer opportunities and, in fact, ‘Everyday Heroes’ is this year’s theme about how everyone can be an everyday hero by stepping up and helping out.” She continued, “I believe everyone in the room has had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the good work of the American Red Cross. Many times that knowledge comes through tragedy or weather-related or fire incidents, when people have been displaced or lost belongings and in need of financial assistance and of mental and social support as a result of those experiences. The American Red Cross has always been a tremendous neighbor to come in right on the spot in a quick and effective manner to lend whatever support that they are able to in those unfortunate times of need.” Mayor Mironov added, “Most people here have probably been to classes sponsored by the American Red Cross for first aid or CPR.

Christy Hodde, in her 12th year with the American Red Cross, stated, “We are grateful to our volunteers because they are truly the heart of the organization and I would ask of you all to certainly think about this: we have such a growing diversity in our communities and we would really like our volunteers to be reflective of that diversity.” Ms Hodde encouraged” the East Windsor community to give blood, to honor the vets and to get trained in life-saving skills.”

The Mayoral Proclamation states, “the American Red Cross is a one the nations’ most important non-profit agencies overseeing the work of countless volunteers who give their time and resources to the community by selflessly assisting others in times of need. The American Red Cross provides help and support in a multitude of ways to people in this country and around the world by responding to over 66,000 disasters every year, collecting and distributing about forty percent of the nations’ blood supply, providing 24-hour support to military members, veterans and their families and helping millions of people around the world through disaster management and disease prevention activities.” American Red Cross Month was designated by the Congress of the United States by Federal Legislation (36 U.S.C. Sections 1-9), approved January 5, 1905, as the lead voluntary agency providing relief for national and international disasters, mitigating the suffering caused by these disasters, and providing information and education to prevent disaster situations.
