January 18, 2019 - East Windsor Township Announces the Launch of the Nixle Communications System to Become Operational in January 2019. East Windsor Township Mayor and Council Members have determined to implement the Nixle communications system, to enable immediate text messages to registered cell phones and email addresses, to alert residents and businesses about safety and health subjects of concern, such as severe weather conditions, severe traffic alert, road closures, flooding conditions, power outages, and important public health notices and other significant community updates and important announcements. This communications tool will assist the Township in notifying large numbers of people in real time concerning conditions or issues affecting safety and travel issues. Residents are encouraged to register for the notifications by texting "08520" to the number 888-777 from their cell phone. Residents also will be enabled to register online in January on the Township website to receive the notifications via email. IMPORTANT NOTE: Regardless of your zip code, you must register under the zip code 08520 to receive East Windsor related Nixle alerts.
- East Windsor Township 2019 New Year's Food Drive Will Continue through January 31, 2019. Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members are asking area residents and businesses to drop off donated non-perishable food items at the East Windsor Municipal Building (16 Lanning Boulevard) during business hours, the East Windsor Police/Court Building (80 One Mile Road) 24/7, or at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 (69 Twin Rivers Drive). The food drive will benefit the food pantries of RISE and St. Anthony's Church, area-based organizations that provide assistance to local individuals and families.
- REMINDER: No Township Curbside Garbage Collection Will Occur on Monday, January 21 and All Township Offices Will Be CLOSED due to the holiday. Garbage Collection for Area #1 residents, normally on Monday, January 21, will be on the next scheduled collection date of Thursday, January 24. - East Windsor Township and the NJ League of Municipalities Offer Scholarship Opportunities to Junior and Senior High School Students. Three $1,000 scholarships are being offered through the Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition. This statewide scholarship competition centers on the theme "What My Municipal Government Does Best" and seeks to advance the virtues of elected and volunteer members of the community, while raising awareness of municipal government in general. An appointed committee will select a semi-finalist and forward the semi-finalist's entry to the scholarship committee of the New Jersey League of Municipalities for their consideration. The State League Scholarship Committee will select 15 finalists and 3 winners from the State. All entries should be returned to the East Windsor Mayor's Office by Monday, March 11.
- Mercer County Surrogate East Windsor Satellite Office to Continue in 2019, in accordance with an arrangement between Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Mercer County Surrogate Diane Gerofsky. The Satellite Office is housed at the Township Senior Center and provides residents the opportunity to obtain probate services locally, by appointment. The East Windsor Surrogate's Satellite Office is offered from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on the 4th Tuesday of each month, specifically for 2019: January 22, February 26, March 26, April 23, May 28, June 25, July 23, August 27, September 24, October 22, November 26, and December 24. - East Windsor Township Police Department Awarded $8,027 in Federal and State Grants For Police Body Armor. The grant funds include $3,524 received under the United States Department of Justice Bullet Proof Vest Partnership and $4,503 from the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice State Body Armor Replacement Fund Program. The grant funds are used to supplement Township expenditures for the periodic replacement of body armor issued to and used by Township police.
- Annual Windsor-Hightstown Area Ministerium (WHAM) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service Will Be Held on Sunday, January 20 at 7 p.m., at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 21 Rev. William L. Powell Drive, Hightstown. The program will be followed by light refreshments.
- East Windsor Township Mayor and Council Encourage Citizens to Volunteer for Township Boards and Committees. Citizens can apply to serve on the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, Commission on Aging, East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority, Economic Development Committee, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Board, Planning Board, Recreation Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse. - REMINDER: All Dog Licenses Are Required to be Renewed by January 31. All dogs seven months of age or older are required to be licensed.
