February 15, 2019 - East Windsor Township Launches Nixle Communications System, implemented by Mayor and Council, to enable immediate text messages to registered cell phones and email addresses, to alert residents and businesses about safety and health subjects of concern, such as severe weather conditions, traffic disruption alerts, road closures, flooding conditions, power outages and important public health notices, as well as other significant community updates and important announcements. The Nixle communications tool will assist the Township in notifying large numbers of people in real time concerning conditions or issues affecting safety and travel issues. Residents are encouraged to register for the notifications by texting "08520" to the number 888-777 from their cell phone. Residents also can register online (CLICK HERE) to receive the notifications via email and/or mobile phone. IMPORTANT NOTE: Regardless of your zip code, you must register under the zip code 08520 to receive East Windsor related Nixle alerts.
- REMINDER: No Township Curbside Garbage Collection Will Occur on Monday, February 18 and All Township Offices Will Be CLOSED due to the holiday. Garbage Collection for Area #1 residents, normally on Monday, February 18, will be on the next scheduled collection date of Thursday, February 21. - East Windsor Township 2019 New Year's Food Drive Continues. Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members are asking area residents and businesses to drop off donated non-perishable food items at the East Windsor Municipal Building (16 Lanning Boulevard) during business hours, the East Windsor Police/Court Building (80 One Mile Road) 24/7, or at the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 (69 Twin Rivers Drive). The food drive will benefit the food pantries of RISE and St. Anthony's Church, area-based organizations that provide assistance to local individuals and families.
- East Windsor Encourages Community Groups to Participate in 2019 Township Adopt-A-Spot Program. Under this program, participating groups "adopt" a public property and keep it clean during the year. A placard is erected on the site indicating that it has been "adopted by" with the name of the group. The groups are expected to perform clean-up three times per month from April 1 through November 30. Adopt-A-Spot is a great program in not only ensuring public areas of our community are well-maintained, but also has been a wonderful educational tool for teaching young people social responsibility and community pride. Three $1,000 scholarships are being offered through the Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition. This statewide scholarship competition centers on the theme "What My Municipal Government Does Best" and seeks to advance the virtues of elected and volunteer members of the community, while raising awareness of municipal government in general. An appointed committee will select a semi-finalist and forward the semi-finalist's entry to the scholarship committee of the New Jersey League of Municipalities for their consideration. The State League Scholarship Committee will select 15 finalists and 3 winners from the State. - Mercer County Holds Paper Shredding Day on Saturday, February 23 from 9 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine, at Lot 4, South Broad Street, Trenton (across from county administration building at 640 South Broad Street). Residents may bring up to eight boxes or bags of paper; no household chemicals and no commercial businesses are permitted. Proof of residency such as a driver's license is required. - Womanspace Domestic Violence Victim Response Team Is Seeking Volunteers. East Windsor Township Police, in collaboration with Womanspace, is recruiting volunteers who work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referral at the time of a domestic violence situation. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid driver's license and access to transportation, and submit to a background investigation, including fingerprinting. Bilingual individuals are encouraged to participate. An 80-hour mandatory training course is provided and scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 6.
