  1. Roadway Improvements to Oak Creek Road between Hickory Corner Road and Oak Creek Circle Have Been Completed.
  2. Roadway Improvements to Dutch Neck Road between Oak Creek Road and One Mile Road Continue.  The concrete work and repairs to storm drains and pipe are complete.  Paving is slated for early October, weather permitting.
  3. East Windsor Township Launches New Website featuring a highly user friendly format, greater mobile device and tablet compatibility, and easily accessible resources for the public.  The newly designed Township website is the product of a collaborative process among the Mayor and Council, all departments, and Township boards and committees.  Users will find easy access to municipal government information as well as public documents and forms including the Township Code, Council agendas and minutes, and various licensing and permit forms.  Additionally, users can easily sign up for E-news updates, monitor emergency alerts, and readily access prior E-news updates as well as back issues of the Township Newsletter.  NOTE:  The website address at www.east-windsor.nj.us has not changed.
  4. Work Has Begun on East Windsor Police/Court Building Solar Project which will consist of a 444 kilowatt solar array on a parcel of land adjacent to the Police/Court building donated by McGraw-Hill.  This solar array is designed to generate 577,093 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, offsetting nearly 100% of the building’s energy use.  The Township has entered into a 15 year power purchase agreement with Dobtol Construction.  Based upon current energy usage, the Township anticipates a savings of $527,933 over the term of the agreement.  The solar project and power purchase agreement represent another example of East Windsor Township “going green and saving green.”
  5. East Windsor Township Will Hold Recycling Day on Saturday, October 8 from 10 am to 2 pm, Rain or Shine, at the East Windsor Senior Center, located at 40 Lanning Boulevard.  This Township event is sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council, in conjunction with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee.  Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents.  There is a limit of ten boxes per household, and no commercial drop-offs are permitted.  Residents also will be able to drop off cell phones, fluorescent bulbs and toner cartridges, as well as used electronics, computers, computer equipment and televisions.  The East Windsor/Hightstown Lions Club will be collecting used eye glasses.  RISE will have trucks on-site to collect clothing, shoes, blankets, housewares (plates, mugs and related items) and working household appliances and electronics.  For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 215.
  6. REMINDERMercer County Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Recycling Event Will Be Held Saturday, October 1, from 8 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, at the John T. Dempster Fire School, located on Bakers Basin/Lawrence Station Road in Lawrence Township.  Residents can dispose of aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides, herbicides, car batteries, paint thinner, oil based paint, stains and varnishes, gasoline, anti-freeze, driveway sealer, insect repellents, and fluorescent and compact fluorescent bulbs.  Used electronic equipment including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, stereos, televisions and microwaves will be accepted.  Proof of Mercer County residency required.  For further information, visit the Mercer County Improvement Authority website at www.mcianj.org or call (609) 278-8086.
  7. Dance Universe Has Opened in the Carduner Center at the intersection of Route 130 South and Route 571, in the rear building next to Papa John's Pizza.  Owned and operated by Kelly Gorner, the 1515 square foot Dance Universe features two large dance studios and a parent and family lounge area with seating for spectators.  Dance Universe offers instruction in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip-Hop dance as well as Zumba and Pilates classes.  Dance Universe also provides “Mommy and Me,” “Twinkle Baby Star” and “Mini-Stars” classes for children ages 18 months to 5 years.  For more information, visit www.danceuniverse.net.

  8. Last Day to Register to Vote in the November 8 General Election is Tuesday, October 18.  For individuals who wish to Vote by Mail, the deadline to apply is Tuesday, November 1 by mail and Monday, November 7 by 3 pm in person.  Registration forms and vote by mail application forms can be obtained online at www.njelections.org.  Questions can be directed to the municipal clerk's office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 240.
  9. East Windsor Township No Net Loss Grant Funded Tree Planting Project is Slated to Begin Off of Old York Road the week of October 10 and take approximately three to four weeks, weather permitting.  A total of 900 trees will be planted in this area in a continuing series of Township projects, enabled as part of a reforestation program to make up for hundreds of acres of trees that were removed during the New Jersey Turnpike widening project.  East Windsor Township has received nearly $5 million in three phases to underwrite tree planting expenses since the beginning of the required NJ Turnpike reforestation project in 2011.  Under the State of New Jersey's No Net Loss Reforestation Act, state entities are required to replace trees when at least a half-acre of trees are removed during any project or development.
  10. High School Students Invited to Serve as Student Members of East Windsor Township Boards and Commissions.  The boards and commissions included in the program are Commission on Aging, Clean Communities Committee, Economic Development Commission, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Committee and Recreation Commission, as well as the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse.  High school students who wish to be considered should submit a letter indicating their area of interest and reasons or related background, by email to clerk@east-windsor.nj.us, by fax to (609) 443-8303 or by mail to Mayor Janice S.   11. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:  Volunteer Opportunity in Television Broadcasting Available.  If you are interested in broadcasting and would like hands-on training on a live, local television program, opportunities are available to work with the award winning "Spotlight East Windsor" program, one hour every other Wednesday night, at the East Windsor Municipal Building.  Volunteers will learn camera techniques, audio, lighting, video switching, videotape operation and much more.  Those interested should contact the Municipal Clerk's office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 237 and leave your name and contact information.  For technical information, contact Dick Cunningham at (609) 443-1199.
  12. Township Recreation Department Offers Trip to Dave and Busters at the Franklin Mills Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday, November 10.  Open to children grades 4 through 8, the trip will feature visiting the Philadelphia Mills Mall and arcade gaming area.  The bus will leave from the Municipal Building, 16 Lanning Boulevard, at 8:45 am and will return at approximately 4:30 pm.  The cost is $35, which includes school bus transportation, buffet lunch, $10 arcade card, unlimited video game play and adult supervision.  For more information and to register, visit the Township website or (CLICK HERE) or call (609) 443-4000, ext. 214.
  13.   14. Calendar:  East Windsor Will Hold Free Rabies Clinics for dog and cat owners on Saturday, November 5 from 1 pm to 3 pm at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 at 51 One Mile Road and on Saturday, November 12 from 1 pm to 3 pm at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 at 69 Twin Rivers Drive.  Owners will be required to show a certificate of previous rabies vaccination; otherwise vaccinations of one year duration only will be provided.  For safety, all animals must be properly restrained by leash or carried.  For more information, contact the Animal Control Officer at (609) 448-5678, ext. 229 or visit www.east-windsor.nj.us (click on "Police Department" then "Animal Control").
