  1. REMINDER: Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection Initiative Kicks Off on Saturday, June 15, Funded by $6,000 Grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, and will run through September. The first session will be held at the Target parking lot, at 70 Princeton-Hightstown Road on Saturday, June 15 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. The FREE Child Passenger Safety Seat inspections for Township residents, hosted by Mayor Janice S. Mironov, Members of Council and the police department, are to promote child passenger safety. Participants will have their child seats inspected to ensure proper installation and will receive educational materials regarding current state child restraint laws. Additional sessions will be held as follows: East Windsor Police/Court building, at 80 One Mile Road on Wednesday, July 17, Thursday, August 22, and Friday, September 13 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. and at the Township National Night Out event at the East Windsor PAL Complex (30 Airport Road) on Tuesday, August 6 from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M.
  2. East Windsor Township 2018 Business Awards Presented to Berkshire Bank, Hovione, Exeter Property Group and Shiseido America by Mayor Janice S. Mironov. The purpose of the annual award program is to recognize local businesses for community contributions and support in areas of Business Community Good Neighbor, Community Service, Community Enhancement, and Green and Sustainable Practices.


    Mayor Janice S. Mironov thanks the four recipients of the 2018 East Windsor Township Business awards.     Berkshire Bank, located at 18 Princeton-Hightstown Road, was recognized with a 2018 Business Award for "Special Community Contributions and Service" to East Windsor. Berkshire Bank, through the Berkshire Bank Foundation, has stepped up and supported many community programs and groups, including annually as a Platinum Sponsor of the East Windsor Community Summer Event Series consisting of concerts, family night, egg hunt and Independence Day Celebration. Berkshire Bank also has provided grants in the East Windsor area community to Womanspace toward transitional housing, to the Joshua Harr Shane Foundation in support of the Stroke Gym at RWJ Hospital in Hamilton, and to Rise for a food pantry database system. Additionally, the Bank contributed $2,500 and volunteers for a Bike Build program for Better Beginnings and through their XTeam Volunteer program have given over 100 volunteer hours assisting at the Rise Thrift Store and for the Better Beginnings "Shining Star Gala." Berkshire Bank also will facilitate the GreenPath Financial Literacy program at the East Windsor Senior Center, beginning in summer 2019, to provide financial education and counseling to empower people to lead financially healthy lives.

    Hovione, located at 40 Lake Drive, was recognized with a 2018 Business Award for "Special Contributions as a Good Neighbor and Commitment to East Windsor." Hovione, a Portuguese based pharmaceutical company, completed a major expansion in East Windsor in 2018 with a new Research and Development Center, doubling the size of the facility with the 28,000 square foot addition and doubling total employment with the addition of 60 new jobs. Hovione is an active community corporate citizen, including as a Gold Sponsor of the East Windsor Community Summer Event Series of concerts, family night, egg hunt and Independence Day Celebration and donated $7,500 to support special programs and events throughout the year at the East Windsor Senior Center.

    Exeter Property Group, a real estate investment management group, was recognized with a 2018 Business Award for "Special Community Enhancement Contributions." In 2018, Exeter Property Group completed the transformational redevelopment of the former National Lead site on Wyckoff Mills Road with construction and opening of a new sizeable modern commercial facility of 634,000 square feet, generating 150 new jobs, and housing Modway Furniture, a major distributor of livingroom, diningroom, bedroom, outdoor and office furnishings. The redevelopment removed from the long vacated site a visible rusty elevated water storage tank and demolished the deteriorated unusable buildings. The redevelopment by Exeter transformed a longtime eyesore in the Township into a modern and aesthetically attractive commercial center visible from the NJ Turnpike, creating new job opportunities and generating a significant stream of annual revenue to support the municipal budget and taxpayers.

    Shiseido America, located at 366 Princeton-Hightstown Road, was recognized with the 2018 Business Award for "Special Community Enhancement Contributions for Green and Sustainable Practices." Shiseido, a global skin care and cosmetics company based in Japan which established operations in East Windsor in 1998, has completed a series of expansions, including global designation as America's Innovation Center, and relocation of company operations and personnel, resulting today in a 310,580 square foot facility that is home to 800 employees. Shiseido installed roof top and modest ground based solar arrays as well as other energy savings initiatives, reducing annual energy usage by 70% with significant cost savings, for which they received the New Jersey Environmental Excellence Award. A longtime environmental leader, Shiseido has held ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management since 2000, and in 2017 achieved a solid waste recycling rate of 81%, as well as an 87.9% reduction of non-hazardous wastewater per month, providing further business cost savings. Shiseido America is a certified member of the New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry, and in 2014 was recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Sustainable Business by Sustainable Raritan River Collaborative, Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Locally, the company sponsors the annual Earth Day Recycling Poster Contest for elementary school students, and company employee volunteers have donated and planted flowers and shrubbery at the East Windsor Senior Center each spring and fall for the past ten years. Shiseido is an active corporate community citizen in many other ways, including as a regular Sponsor of the East Windsor Community Summer Event Series of concerts, family night, egg hunt and Independence Day Celebration, as well as providing financial and volunteer support for Womanspace activities.

  3. Improvements to Oak Creek Road from Windsor Center Drive to Heathwood Drive, and Heathwood Drive from Oak Creek Road to Dutch Neck Road Have Been Completed except for remaining punch list items to be addressed by the contractor.
  4. Improvements to Old Cranbury Road between Route 130 and the Millstone River Bridge at the Township Border with Cranbury, Rocky Brook Road from Old Cranbury Road to Oak Branch Road, and Holland Lane Continue, and are Expected To Be Completed on or about Tuesday June 18, weather permitting.
  5. Roadway Improvements to Cypress Drive from Meadowbrook Road to One Mile Road South and Spruce Road Continue with concrete repairs to curbs and driveway aprons as well as handicapped ramps. Milling and paving is now expected to begin during the week of June 24 and to take five days, weather permitting. Residents should take note of any posted traffic or parking restrictions in work areas. The project, awarded to Richard T. Barrett Paving Company of Trenton, New Jersey, is anticipated to be fully completed in early July. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7 A.M. to 5 P.M.
  6. Groups and Businesses Invited to Participate in"National Night Out" Set for Tuesday, August 6, from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. at the East Windsor PAL Complex, 30 Airport Road. This annual fun educational Township event, sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members in conjunction with Chief of Police James Geary, features crime watch information, emergency services equipment, music, booths and displays by area groups and businesses with information and giveaways supporting the National Night Out theme.   7. East Windsor Independence Day Celebration Will Be Held on Saturday, July 6 (rain date Saturday, July 13) at Etra Lake Park. Free entertainment begins at 6 P.M. with the Jerry Rife's Rhythm Kings Dixieland Jazz Band, a 6 piece band from the Delaware Valley area best known for its traditional jazz sound, followed at 7:45 P.M. by the Trenton Brass Quintet Plus One, a 6 piece ensemble from Central Jersey performing "Americana" and a variety of popular melodies. The spectacular Fireworks Display will commence immediately following the musical presentations, at approximately 9:30 P.M. Bring your blankets and chairs, and use the barbecue grills for a night of free fun at beautiful Etra Lake Park. There also will be vendors present selling refreshments.   8. East Windsor Township Will Hold Document Shredding/Recycling Day on Wednesday, July 10 from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M., at the East Windsor Senior Center, located at 40 Lanning Boulevard. This Township event is sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council, in conjunction with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee. Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents, with a limit of ten boxes per household. No commercial drop-offs are permitted. RISE will be on-site for drop-off of shoes, clothing, blankets, working appliances, usable furniture, and housewares. NO ELECTRONICS ACCEPTED at this event (i.e. NO televisions, computers, computer accessories and non-working appliances.) For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 215.
