  1. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT  Mayor Janice S. Mironov Announced New Professional Substance Abuse and Mental Health Support Services for East Windsor, Provided by Family Guidance Center and Funded by Mercer County, Commencing Tuesday, October 3.  The agency clinician is available Tuesdays 2 pm to 7 pm and Thursdays 2 pm to 6 pm, at the Western Monmouth County YMCA facility at 230 Mercer Street, Route 33, by appointment only at (609) 731-2461.  A regular program entitled "Parenting Wisely, by Mercer Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction," will be offered with weekly sessions starting evenings on Wednesday, October 4, to increase parental communications and coping mechanisms for those with children who are at risk or exhibiting behavioral problems.  To register, call (609) 396-5874, ext. 209.  On Wednesday, October 11, from 5 pm to 7 pm, an Open House will be hosted by Family Guidance Center and partner orgnizations at the new offices.  This event is an opportunity to meet the staff, tour the facilities and obtain further information concerning these new local initiatives and programs.  A video of the Town Hall meeting on "Knock Out Opioid Abuse" can be viewed on the Township website or (CLICK HERE).

  2. East Windsor Township Was Awarded $335,000 New Jersey Department of Transportation Grant for Roadway Improvements to Brooktree Road from Oak Creek Road to Dutch Neck Road and Wiltshire Drive between Dutch Neck Road and Dorchester Drive.  The funding, successfully obtained by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members, will be used to resurface the roadway, as well as other associated improvements to curbing, drainage and handicap ramps.  The Township is proceeding with the NJDOT mandated engineering work, and the roadway work is expected to be performed in summer 2018, upon engineering completion and bid award.
  3. East Windsor Township Will Hold Recycling Day on Saturday, October 14 from 10 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, at the East Windsor Senior Center, located at 40 Lanning Boulevard.  This Township event is sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council, in conjunction with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee.  Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents. There is a limit of ten boxes per household, and no commercial drop-offs are permitted.  Residents also will be able to drop off cell phones, fluorescent bulbs and toner cartridges, as well as used electronics, computers, computer equipment and televisions.  The East Windsor/Hightstown Lions Club will be collecting used eye glasses.  RISE will have trucks on-site to collect useable clothing, shoes, blankets, housewares (plates, mugs and related items) and working household appliances and electronics.  For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 215.
  4. Mercer County Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Recycling Event Will Be Held on Saturday, October 7, from 8 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, at the John T. Dempster Fire School, located on Bakers Basin/Lawrence Station Road in Lawrence Township.  Residents can dispose of aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides, herbicides, car batteries, paint thinner, oil based paint, stains and varnishes, gasoline, anti-freeze, driveway sealer, insect repellents, and fluorescent and compact fluorescent bulbs.  Used electronic equipment including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, stereos, televisions and microwaves will be accepted.  Proof of Mercer County residency required.  For further information, visit the Mercer County Improvement Authority website at www.mcianj.org or call (609) 278-8086.
  5. East Windsor Township Awarded $135,000 Grant to Plan and Design Union Transportation Trail Extension, from Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.  The grant will fund the design of an approximately 3.5 mile-long trail extension, to run from the current terminus at the Mercer/Monmouth County line near the intersection of Old York Road and Sharon Road, through the southeastern portion of the Township, then crossing the NJ Turnpike in the area of Windsor Perrineville Road and ultimately connecting to Airport Road near Route 33.  With this extension, the UTT trail system would run for over 12 miles to the Ocean County/Monmouth County line near Crosswicks Creek Park.  This project furthers an existing regional recreational project linking Mercer County to Monmouth County, Burlington County and Ocean Couty to extend a popular bicycling and hiking trail, as well as creating a valuable interconnect within East Windsor enabling bicycling and walking across a significant land segment in the southeast quadrant of the Township.
  6. East Windsor Township Economic Development Committee and the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce Are Sponsoring Joint Economic Development Forum and Networking Breakfast on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 8 am to 10 am, at The National Conference Center/ Holiday Inn at 399 Monmouth Street, East Windsor.  The program "Meet the Pharmaceutical Companies Who Call East Windsor Home" features a panel of local company representatives from Aurobindo Pharma USA, Biofarma, Hovione and Shiseido America, moderated by Gerry Ricciardi of JCP&L, to discuss what makes East Windsor a great place for the pharmaceutical industry.  Registration and networking begin at 8 am, followed by full breakfast, and the program begins by 8:30 am.  All area businesses and interested persons are encouraged to attend.  Register online at www.princetonchamber.org, or call Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce at (609) 924-1776 for further information. 
  7. Last Day to Register to Vote in the November 7 General Election is Tuesday, October 17 For individuals who wish to Vote by Mail, the deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 31 by mail and Monday, November 6 by 3 pm in person.  Registration forms and vote by mail application forms can be obtained online at www.njelections.org.  Questions can be directed to the municipal clerk's office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 240.
  8. East Windsor Township Mayor and Council Encourage Citizens to Volunteer for Township Boards and Committees.  Citizens can apply to serve on the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, Commission on Aging, East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority, Economic Development Committee, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Board, Planning Board, Recreation Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse.  Residents interested in volunteering can obtain an application form from the municipal clerk or can fill out this form (CLICK HERE) and return by email to clerk@east-windsor.nj.us, by fax to (609) 443-8303, or by mail to Mayor Janice S. High School Students Invited to Serve as Student Members of East Windsor Township Boards and Commissions.  The boards and commissions included in the program are Commission on Aging, Clean Communities Committee, Economic Development Commission, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Committee and Recreation Commission, as well as the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse.  High school students who wish to be considered should submit a letter indicating their area of interest and reasons or related background, by email to clerk@east-windsor.nj.us, by fax to (609) 443-8303 or by mail to Mayor Janice S.   10. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:   Volunteer Opportunity in Television Broadcasting Available.  If you are interested in broadcasting and would like hands-on training on a live, local television program, opportunities are available to work with the award winning "Spotlight East Windsor" program, one hour every other Wednesday night, at the East Windsor Municipal Building.  Volunteers will learn camera techniques, audio, lighting, video switching, videotape operation and much more.  Interested individuals should contact the Municipal Clerk’s office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 237 and provide your name and contact information.  For technical information, contact Dick Cunningham at (609) 443-1199.
  11. Deadline for Applications for "The Property Tax Freeze" for Seniors Extended to October 18, 2017.  Homeowners who were 65 or older or 100% disabled in 2016 and received Federal Social Security Disability benefits may be eligible for this program that establishes a base year for property taxes and reimburses the homeowner for any increase in the future tax years.  To qualify, a senior must live in New Jersey continuously for at least 10 years, owned or lived in his/her home or mobile home for at least the last 3 years, paid the full amount of property taxes or site fees due for the base year and each succeeding year for which the reimbursement is claimed, and had gross income for 2016 of $70,000 or less and for 2015 of $87,007 or less.  To learn more about this program, contact the Township Tax Collector at (609) 443-4000, ext. 230. 
  12. CALENDAR:   East Windsor Will Hold Free Rabies Clinics for dog and cat owners on Saturday, November 4 from 1 pm to 3 pm at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 at 51 One Mile Road and on Saturday, November 11 from 1 pm to 3 pm at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 at 69 Twin Rivers Drive.  Owners will be required to show a certificate of previous rabies vaccination; otherwise vaccinations of one year duration only will be provided.  For safety, all animals must be properly restrained by leash or carried.  For more information, contact the Animal Control Officer at (609) 448-5678, ext. 229 or visit www.east-windsor.nj.us (click on "Police Department" then "Animal Control").
