  1. REMINDER: East Windsor Township Will Hold Recycling Day on Saturday, October 14 from 10 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, at the East Windsor Senior Center, located at 40 Lanning Boulevard. This Township event is sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council, in conjunction with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee. Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents. There is a limit of ten boxes per household, and no commercial drop-offs are permitted. Residents also will be able to drop off cell phones, fluorescent bulbs and toner cartridges, as well as used electronics, computers, computer equipment and televisions. The East Windsor/Hightstown Lions Club will be collecting used eye glasses. RISE will have trucks on-site to collect useable clothing, shoes, blankets, housewares (plates, mugs and related items) and working household appliances and electronics.   2. ALERT: Windsor Center Drive Roadway Improvements Have Begun this Week, commencing with concrete work and inlet rehabilitation. It is anticipated that milling and paving will begin during the week of October 17, during which there will be signed roadway detours. The project, being performed by Aurobindo as part of their agreed transportation improvement contributions, includes resurfacing the entire roadway from Princeton Hightstown Road to Old Trenton Road, as well as inlet rehabilitation.
  3. Kohl's Opens In East Windsor Village ("Target Center") on Princeton Hightstown Road, just west of Route 130. Kohl's, a popular retail specialty store, offers national and exclusive brands in a variety of items including men, women and children's clothing, housewares, bedding and linens as well as jewelry. Kohl's, based in Wisconsin with more than 1,100 stores in 49 states, also is equipped with in-store kiosks for on-line purchases and free home delivery. Current hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 9 pm, Friday, 10 am to 10 pm, Saturday 9 am to 10 pm, and Sunday 10 am to 8 pm.   4. East Windsor Offers Free Flu Clinics on Friday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 31, from 9 am to 3 pm at the Township Senior Center (40 Lanning Boulevard), for all residents 60 and older. The vaccinations are by appointment only, by calling the Township Health Department at (609) 443-4000, ext. 222.
  5. East Windsor and Mercer County Are Hosting Special Passport Day on Thursday, October 26 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Municipal Building (16 Lanning Boulevard), from 3 pm to 7 pm. Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami-Covello are sponsoring this special Passport Day, at which the Mercer County Clerk's Office will process United States Passport applications locally for residents. Residents are encouraged to reserve an appointment by calling (609) 989-6465. To apply, residents will need: (1) proof of U.S. Citizenship in the form of a state certified birth certificate, a U.S. naturalization certificate or a previous U.S. passport, and (2) proof of identity in the form of a current driver's license or state issued identification card. The cost of the passport is $110 for adults and $80 for minors, plus a processing fee of $25. (separate check). Passport photos will be available for $15 or $10 for senior citizens. Only checks or money orders will be accepted; no cash or credit cards.   6. Mayor Janice S. Mironov and the Township Clean Communities Committee Award Perkins Restaurant and Bakery with Certificate of Appreciation for Keeping East Windsor Township Litter Free. Perkins, located on Princeton-Hightstown Road at the corner of Lanning Boulevard, was acknowledged as a commercial establishment situated in a highly visible prominent location on major Township roads, for keeping its property and building well maintained and landscaped and free of litter thereby enhancing the municipal appearance and environment. The purpose of the award is to recognize a local business that has made special efforts to keep East Windsor Township litter free.

  7. Last Day to Register to Vote in the November 8 General Election is Tuesday, October 17. For individuals who wish to Vote by Mail, the deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 31 by mail and Monday, November 6 by 3 pm in person. Registration forms and vote by mail application forms can be obtained online at www.njelections.org. Questions can be directed to the municipal clerk's office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 240.
  8. REMINDER: East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 Holds Fire Prevention Week Open House for the Community on Saturday, October 14 from 11 am to 3 pm, rain or shine, at the firehouse at 69 Twin Rivers Drive. The event will include an opportunity for the community to learn about fire prevention including fire extinguisher training and dangers of grease fires, as well as meet local volunteer firefighters. Other event activities will include smoke alarm giveaways, blood pressure screening, kids zone and meet "Sparky the Fire Dog."   9. East Windsor Will Participate in "Operation Medicine Cabinet" on Saturday, October 28 from 10 am to 2 pm, a program offering residents the opportunity to dispose of all unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications in a safe manner. The Township will have a drop box in the lobby of the police/court building at 80 One Mile Road for the collection of these various medications. Collected medications will be turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on the next business day for final disposal. "Operation Medicine Cabinet" provides a secure and legal means to dispose of these prescription medications in an environmentally responsible manner and reduces possible access by unauthorized persons and young people to these drugs.
  10. East Windsor Township Economic Development Committee and the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce Held a Joint Economic Development Forum entitled "Meet the Pharmaceutical Companies who Call East Windsor Home." The program featured a panel of local company representatives from Aurobindo Pharma USA, Biofarma US, Hovione, Shiseido and Novitium Pharmaceutical, moderated by Gerry Ricciardi of JCP&L, as well as remarks by Mayor Janice S. Mironov -- to discuss what makes East Windsor a great place for the pharmaceutical industry.

  11. East Windsor Township Mayor and Council Encourage Citizens to Volunteer for Township Boards and Committees. Citizens can apply to serve on the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, Commission on Aging, East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority, Economic Development Committee, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Board, Planning Board, Recreation Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse. East Windsor Will Hold Free Rabies Clinics for dog and cat owners on Saturday, November 4 from 1 pm to 3 pm at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 at 51 One Mile Road and on Saturday, November 11 from 1 pm to 3 pm at East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 at 69 Twin Rivers Drive. Owners will be required to show a certificate of previous rabies vaccination; otherwise vaccinations of one year duration only will be provided. For safety, all animals must be properly restrained by leash or carried.   13. Township Senior Center Offers Trip to Princeton for a Walking Tour on Saturday, October 21. Enjoy a scenic walk around downtown Princeton and the University campus. Discover the architectural history behind prominent buildings and landmarks, including Nassau Hall, University Chapel, and Palmer Square. Learn about Princeton's historic role in the American Revolution and the founding of the nation, and hear stories about some of its most famous residents. The bus will leave the Senior Center, 40 Lanning Boulevard, at 10:30 am and return at approximately 1 pm. The cost is $8. The Senior Center is open to seniors ages 60 years old and older who reside in East Windsor Township and Hightstown Borough. Contact (609) 371-7192 for additional information.
