CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE

Mercer County has reported, as of May 6, 2020, there have been 117 new cases for a total of 4,860 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases to date, and 18 additional deaths for a total of 298 deaths in Mercer County. All active cases are either at home self-isolating or admitted to the hospital. The State of New Jersey today reported 1,297 additional Confirmed COVID-19 Cases for a current total of 131,890 cases, and 305 additional deaths for a total of 8,549 COVID-19 related deaths statewide. It is important that everyone continue practicing social distancing, following the advice and directives of health care professionals and government officials, and using good sense, so we can all get through this difficult period together. We need to remember that the most effective and most caring responsible thing we can continue to do for ourselves, our loved ones and our entire community is to continue to do what we are doing.

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP UPDATE

  1. At the May 5 Council meeting, Mayor Janice Mironov and Council Members voted unanimously to extend the Grace Period for 2nd Quarter May 1 property tax payments from May 11 until June 1,  pursuant to the authorization provided to municipalities by the Governor's April 28, 2020 Executive Order No. 130 (CLICK HERE).  No interest will be charged provided payment is made in full on or before June 1, 2020.
  2. "Spotlight East Windsor"  with Mayor Janice S. Mironov is back starting Wednesday, May 6!  Spotlight East Windsor provides information and updates on subjects of interest to the East Windsor community.  An expanded schedule of a weekly pre-taped "Spotlight East Windsor" can be viewed daily at 1 P.M., 3 P.M. 5 P.M., 7 P.M., 9 P.M. and 11 P.M. on Comcast Channel 27 and Verizon Channel 38, or on the Township website at www.east-windsor.nj.us.

MERCER COUNTY UPDATE

Beginning Friday, May 8, a Walk-Up COVID-19 Test Site will be open in Hightstown on Fridays at 12 Noon in the parking lot of St. Anthony of Padua Church, 156 Maxwell Avenue, for individuals who lack transportation to the Quakerbridge Mall.  Testing will be provided for symptomatic Mercer County residents age 18 or older who have a doctor's prescription and by appointment-only.

  • A doctor’s order and an appointment are required to be tested.  Contact a doctor, and if a test is needed, the doctor will fax a prescription to the Mercer County health call center at (609) 630-4031, and the center will contact you to schedule an appointment.
  • Call the Henry J. Austin Health Center in Trenton at (609) 259-5900, which will help you speak with a doctor by phone or video, to see if testing is needed. 
  • Call (609) 337-4081 Monday through Friday between 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. with any questions about the testing process.
  • There is no charge for the test at Mercer County testing sites.

Mercer County Park Commission's Nature Programs Offering Virtual "Eyes on Eagles" Program on Sunday, May 10 and Sunday June 7, beginning at 2 P.M., allowing viewers to take a closer look at bald eagle nesting behavior in Mercer County.  These online programs are free.  The hour-long webinars feature current footage collected safely from one of the nests located in the County Park system, along with bald eagle history and interpretation provided by Park Commission naturalists and the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ. Key moments in the lives of the young eaglets will be highlighted in these two programs where viewers may see different activity such as nesting and branching.  Naturalists will share up-to-date information on the eagles through your own virtual spotting scope and share the unique story of the eagles at Mercer Lake. This program is presented in partnership with Conserve Wildlife Foundation, the Wildlife Center Friends and PSE&G.  For the safety of the eagles all public viewing must be done from a distance. Bald eagles and many bird species are sensitive during their nesting season. Park patrons must remain on marked trails at all times; disturbance to wildlife will cause harm, where they may refuse to return in the future.  Public programs will provide important tips to park users on “eagle etiquette,” including information on federal regulations prohibiting the disturbance of bald eagle nests.  “Eyes on Eagles” virtual programming will conclude with a Q&A session for the public to ask any questions about eagles.  Participants will be able to submit questions in advance of the program by email to krypkema@mercercounty.org.  Questions can also be asked through the chat feature in the webinar.  To learn more about bald eagle programming opportunities, visit www.mercercountyparks.org or www.conservewildlifenj.org.  Users can register in advance through the following meeting links:

Governor Murphy issued Executive Order No. 138 (CLICK HERE) today May 6 extending the public health emergency declared on March 9 for an additional 30 days.
