Positive COVID-19 cases do continue to increase in Mercer County and the State of New Jersey. In East Windsor, these past weeks have continued to mark the slowest increase in new cases in the last 2-1/2 months. On a very positive and hopeful community note, as of Saturday, May 30, 2020, a total of 529 East Windsor resident cases have recovered.

So it is even more important to continue this progress by practicing social distancing, following the advice and directives of health care professionals and government officials, and using good sense, so we can all get through this difficult period together. We need to remember that the most effective and most caring responsible thing we can continue to do for ourselves, our loved ones and our entire community is to continue to do what we are doing.

If you are concerned about your mental health or the mental health of a loved one during the current crisis, NJMentalHealthCares is available 7 days a week from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. at (866) 202-HELP (4357).

Mercer County has reported, as of May 31, 2020, there have been 83 new cases for a total of 6,933 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases to date, and 2 additional deaths for a total, sadly, of 472 deaths in Mercer County. All active cases are either at home self-isolating or admitted to the hospital. The State of New Jersey today reported 837 additional Confirmed COVID-19 Cases for a current total of 160,445 cases, and 64 additional deaths for a total of 11,698 COVID-19 related deaths statewide. STATE OF NEW JERSEY UPDATES

Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 149 (CLICK HERE) on May 30, 2020, allowing resumption of Child Care Services, Youth Day Camps and Organized Sports, as of the following dates and under the following conditions:

Child Care Services

  • Effective June 15, 6 A.M., Child Care Centers and other child care facilities are permitted to resume operations for all clients, provided that they comply with the COVID-19 Child Care Standards and other applicable statutes, regulations, and Executive Orders.
  • Each child care center must submit an attestation to the Department of Children and Families, Office of Licensing, no later than 24 hours prior to the anticipated opening date, or in the case of currently operating emergency child care centers, within fourteen days of the effective date of this Order, attesting that it will follow all applicable health and safety standards, as detailed in the COVID-19 Child Care Standards.

Youth Day Camps

  • Youth summer camps shall be permitted to operate on or after Monday, July 6, provided that they comply with the COVID-19 Child Care and Youth Summer Camp Standards and other applicable statutes, regulations, and Executive Orders.
  • Youth summer camps must submit an attestation to the Department of Health no later than 24 hours prior to the anticipated opening date, attesting that they will follow all applicable health and safety standards, as detailed in the COVID-19 Youth Summer Camp Standards.
  • Residential and overnight camps are prohibited from operating.

Organized Sports

  • Effective June 22, sporting activities, including organized sporting activities, are permitted in outdoor settings only, provided that they do not involve person-to-person contact or routinely entail individuals interacting within six feet of one another. Any sporting activities that involve person-to-person contact or individuals routinely interacting in close proximity (within six feet of one another) will remain prohibited in any setting.
  • The Commissioner of the Department of Health shall impose health and safety standards regarding sporting activities before that date, and such activities must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Executive Orders, including restrictions on gatherings in place at the time the sporting activities occur.
  • High school sporting activities under the jurisdiction of the NJSIAA cannot resume before June 30, in accordance with reopening protocols issued by NJSIAA, which shall consider DOH guidance in issuing these protocols.

The New Jersey Department of Children and Families on May 30 released specific safety operating guidance for Child Care Center, which are posted on the NJ DCF website, as a condition of reopening, including:

  • Centers will be required to screen children and staff each day, prior to entry into the center. Anyone exhibiting symptoms or with a fever over 100.4 will be prohibited from entering the center.
  • Class and group sizes will be limited, and groups must be spaced out throughout the center. Staff members will not be able to move between groups.
  • Staff will be required to wear cloth masks, and children over the age of 2 will be encouraged, whenever feasible, to wear masks. Masks will not be required when they would inhibit an individual's health. Masks for children under the age of 2 or during nap-time will be prohibited as they may pose a suffocation hazard for young children.
  • Childcare centers will be required to engage in enhanced cleaning and sanitation practices.

The DCF Office of Licensing inspectors will begin to visit licensed child care centers beginning June 15 in order to support centers in implementing safety guidance.
