1. REMINDER:   East Windsor Township Will Hold Recycling Day on Saturday, September 22 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., rain or shine, at the East Windsor Senior Center, located at 40 Lanning Boulevard.  This Township event is sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council, in conjunction with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee.  Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents. There is a limit of ten boxes per household, and no commercial drop-offs are permitted.  Residents also will be able to drop off cell phones, fluorescent bulbs and toner cartridges, as well as used electronics, computers, computer equipment and televisions.  The East Windsor/Hightstown Lions Club will be collecting used eye glasses.  RISE will have trucks on-site to collect useable clothing, shoes, blankets, housewares (plates, mugs and related items) and working household appliances and electronics.  For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 215.
2. Mercer County Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Recycling Event Will Be Held on Saturday, September 29, from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M., rain or shine, at the John T. Dempster Fire School, located on Bakers Basin/Lawrence Station Road in Lawrence Township.  No registration is required, just proof of Mercer County residency.  Residents can dispose of aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides, herbicides, car batteries, paint thinner, oil based paint, gasoline, anti-freeze, driveway sealer, insect repellents, and fluorescent and compact fluorescent bulbs.  Used electronic equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, televisions, and microwaves will be accepted.  For further information, visit the MCIA website at www.mcianj.org or call (609) 278-8086.
3. Route 130-Hankins Road-Conover Road Intersection Realignment Project Improvements Sent Out to Bid by East Windsor Township.  The project provides for Route 130, Hankins Road and Conover Road to be realigned to meet at a single point controlled by a traffic signal and allowing for all left-turn movements.  Currently, due to the disconnected configuration represented by Hankins Road and Conover Road at Route 130, left turning movements from and onto Conover Road and Route 130 are challenging and potentially hazardous.  This realignment project, long advocated for by Mayor and Council to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, would enable vehicles to make signal protected left turns from Route 130 South onto Conover Road and from Conover Road onto Route 130 South and allow direct access across Route 130 from Conover Road to Hankins Road.  Construction is targeted for 2019.  The project is being partially funded by a New Jersey Department of Transportation $525,000 grant.
4. Improvements to Brooktree Road between Oak Creek Road and Dutch Neck Road and Wiltshire Road from Dutch Neck Road to Dorchester Drive Are Ongoing with Concrete Repairs to Curbs, Aprons and Handicapped Ramps.  Thereafter, the roadway will be milled and paved.  The entire project was targeted to be completed by the end of September, but that timeline is weather dependent.  The project, being performed by low bidder, Richard T. Barrett of Trenton, New Jersey, is funded by a New Jersey Department of Transportation $335,000 grant.  Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 A.M. to 5 P.M.
5. East Windsor Offers Free Flu Clinics on Thursday, October 11 and Tuesday, October 23, from 9:30 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the Township Senior Center (40 Lanning Boulevard), for all residents 60 years and older.  The vaccinations are by appointment only, by calling the Township Health Department at (609) 443-4000, ext. 222.
6. Last Day to Register to Vote in the November 6 General Election is Tuesday, October 16.  For individuals who wish to Vote by Mail, the deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 30 by mail and Monday, November 5 by 3 P.M. in person at the Office of the Mercer County Clerk.  Registration forms and vote by mail application forms can be obtained online at www.njelections.org.  Questions can be directed to the municipal clerk's office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 240.
7. High School Students Invited to Serve as Student Members of East Windsor Township Boards and Commissions.  The boards and commissions included in the program are Commission on Aging, Clean Communities Committee, Economic Development Commission, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Committee and Recreation Commission, as well as the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse.  High school students who wish to be considered should submit a letter indicating their area of interest and reasons or related background, by email to clerk@east-windsor.nj.us, by fax to (609) 443-8303 or by mail to Mayor Janice S. 8. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:   Volunteer Opportunity in Television Broadcasting Available.  If you are interested in broadcasting and would like hands-on training on a live, local television program, opportunities are available to work with the award winning "Spotlight East Windsor" program, one hour every other Wednesday night, at the East Windsor Municipal Building.  Volunteers will learn camera techniques, audio, lighting, video switching, videotape operation and much more.  Interested individuals should contact the Municipal Clerk’s office at (609) 443-4000, ext. 237 and provide your name and contact information.  For technical information, contact Dick Cunningham at (609) 443-1199.
